Oakland Stock # 3, Sunday July 7th, 6pm
Artist Deadline: June 30, 2013
Oakland Stock is a micro-granting dinner that supports local artists’ projects. Food. FUNding. Feedback. Follow-up.
Here’s how it works: Diners pay $10 to eat a dee-lish meal and to listen to up to 10 artists pitch their projects. At the end of the meal the ballots are cast and counted—diners vote for the project they want to support. The winning artist takes all! The winning artist returns to the following event to present on their progress. Why? Because you have the power to decide what cultural work is important, and here’s a chance to share a meal, discuss artists’ projects, and elect or be a winner of the dinner’s proceeds. Winners of April’s Oakland Stock, Sara Biel & Karla Brundage, will present their progress on Temescal InSitu.
When: Sunday,July 7th, 6pm*-8:30pm (*please arrive by 6:15 to ensure seating)
Where: Ratto’s Market & Deli, 821 Washington Street/9th Old Oakland in Oakland, CA 94607
Menu: Soup, of course! Salad & bread will accompany the meal.
Chef + Host: Lexa Walsh
Who’s Invited: Soup lovers, artists and those interested in supporting them.
PLEASE RSVP by emailing oaklandstock@gmail.com, including the name of each attendee. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Please arrive by 6:15 or your reservation may be forfeited. Please bring a $10 cash donation ($5 for children 12 & under).
Sometimes success in the art market and world seems pretty random. Sunday Soup is a way for artists and communities to actively engage in what they feel is important in cultural production. Oakland Stock is part of the Sunday Soup series of meals that supports artists’ projects. Support for Oakland Stock is provided by Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure Grant Program.

To promote artistic excellence by providing midcareer artists an opportunity to work and collaborate with some of the world’s most distinguished contemporary artists in the fields of composing and visual, literary, and performing arts, while coordinating interaction with community members through on-site and outreach presentations, performances and exhibitions.
ACA organizes many programs for artists of all ages and professional levels. Two of these are open to national and international artists:
Master Artist-in-Residence Program
The Master Artist Residency was the core program at ACA´s founding, and it has served over 3,500 emerging and mid-career artists from many disciplines. The residency is unique in that it is a mentoring program that couples prominent Master Artists with selected Associate Artists for three week periods. Since residencies are process based, and not product-driven, time can be spent on previously existing projects, on new experiments, or on collaborations. The residency is also unique in that it focuses on creating conversations and the sharing of ideas between three disciplines per program, which can include visual artists, writers, dancers, and musicians as well as many other types of art. ACA believes that the spirit and challenges of being an artist are shared by all disciplines and that we can learn much from coming together, sharing our work and ideas, and collaborating on projects. Please visit About the Master Artists-in-Residence Program to learn more.
Community Artist in Residence Program (CAIR)
Beginning in fall of 2012, ACA will launch an innovative Community Artist-in-Residence Program that focuses on bringing artist with a community based practice to New Smyrna Beach.
